Looking for some beautifully handcrafted wine and whiskey barrel furniture or decor? The Hungarian Workshop of southern California has created a furniture line that has been corner stone of all barrel designs. Each piece is made with great quality and attention to detail. All wooden barrel staves are hand selected for each specific project. We have a large indoor warehouse where we keep all material and let the oak rest properly. No outdoor yards where the oak would over whether and turn nothing but gray.

When choosing between wine or whiskey it’s mainly up to you. Simple preference really. If you are a big wine enthusiast you will love the light colored oak with the reds and burgundy stains left behind from the wine. The signature curves from wine barrels create some of the most comfortable lounge chairs available. The whiskey barrel wood a bit different from wine. Some people describe it as rugged and manly, but don’t let that sway your mind. If you are like me who loves reclaimed wood with as much characteristics as possible, this is definitely the route to go with. The American white oak is charred on the inside and the outside usually will have more darker features. Deep forest greens, rusty reds and golden oak with dark grains patterns. With the right amount of prep work, the quarter sawn oak shows off incredible tiger stripe like grain pattering.

If you have visited sunny San Diego or lucky enough to live here you probably have enjoyed the many craft breweries available to us. One of the biggest and most popular in the county is Stone Brewing Company. We have been working with them for over 6 years and now all their locations carry some of our product lines. It was through them how we received our first barrel ever and created a barrel lounge chair. In their Escondido location, in the garden you can even find barrel chair #2. ( I have #1, ha)

Each year the Hungarian Workshop crafts about 100 wine or bourbon whiskey barrel lounge chairs. It is our most popular item and we have shipped all over the US and even some parts of Europe. The chairs also can be made into our signature Recurved Rockers. The best out on the market. Most people may not know that the barrels staves alone don’t provide enough motion to be a proper rocking chair. We actually recurve the wood into a heftier arch that lets the user rock and back forth much more. If you are looking for a true barrel rocking chair, look out for that. I can not stress this enough. If you find your self comparing, just take a look at the bottom staves between our rockers and others.

When it comes to reclaimed bourbon barrel furniture everyone has their favorite distillery. For our end tables we usually picked the tops at random since we had barrels from a wide variety of distilleries. Sometimes customers put in requests for specific brands they favored but that’s as much as they could do. But now for a limited time, we are able to offer you the option to choose from a few main brand distilleries.

Last month we received a large quantity of barrels from a couple big name brands and we broke them down and organized them. We noticed that majority of barrels are from 6-7 major distilleries. Last year an amazing spot opened up in wine country. In Napa Valley Stone Brewing Company has an incredible spot right by the water in a historic building.

In the Spring of 2017 the Hungarian Workshop was working on one of the biggest orders for Napa Valley Stone Brewing Company. With 70+ pieces it was the busiest season ever. The order consisted of 40 dining room chairs (the most complex and time consuming item) 8 dining room tables that had pretty much a full barrel as the base. Along with 16 lounge chairs and 6 end tables. Needless to say we were backed up for weeks and shop was packed full.

After everything was completed I felt like a huge weight has been lifted of my shoulders. When it comes to working with Stone I make their orders the biggest priority. After all, we have been partners with them since our beginning and we do the most repeat business with them. In their Escondido location in southern California they actually still have lounge chair #2. I own #1 and just last week we finished chair #837.

When I visited Napa Valley Stone Brewing Company in the late spring of 2017 just after we delivered their order, the location was still under construction. As usual, all major restaurants will be smart and order the necessary furnishings way before hand. Even with the regular construction delays and what not, it is best to be ahead of schedule rather than be scrambling right before opening week.

Since the doors opened in Napa Valley Stone Brewing Company I have not had a chance to visit again. But on social media I have been following their progress. The place looks amazing. All our chairs are looking out from the patio over looking the water. It looks like an amazing spot to relax, sit back and enjoy a delicious Stone beer.
