We have been handcrafting furniture for over 6 years now from reclaimed wine and whiskey barrels. Our most popular design is the barrel lounge chairs and we have created 837 of them. They come as rockers and if you prefer a luxurious interior version we have that too. Fully upholstered with tufted Italian leather. A must have for anyone who loves our craft and want to enjoy them in deluxe comfort.
With all that being said we often have an overstock of barrels that we either sell off, or as they age and dry we break them down for our material inventory. All of our barrels are indoor kept so the weathering process is drastically slowed down. Living in southern California also allows the barrels to stay hydrated and solid. Before we ship our barrels we go through each one and hammer the bands tight and if necessary we put in tack nails to keep positioned straight. Our goal is to make sure you receive a solid barrel.
The Full Size Whiskey Barrels For Sale we have are fully reclaimed, used and old. Some will have fill dates and cooper’s marks showing the years they were in service. A few years ago we had some amazing scotch barrels with metal tags from the 90’s. It may not seem that old to you but for a wooden barrel that is a full life time. The cosmetic appearance of each barrel will vary. Almost all will have a bit of rusting on the metal bands and certain discoloration is inevitable. A true reclaimed whiskey barrel will have colors of greens, black, dark browns and sometimes blueish tones. Kind of like an army camouflage. Lucky for us pretty much everyone wants whiskey barrels with the upmost characteristics, so with all these variables we don’t have to worry.

Right now we can even offer you with a few choices of distillery stamped barrels. Please note supplies are limited and we won’t always have them on hand. If you see what you want, be sure to order quickly while we have it in stock. The most asked for is Buffalo Trace, Jack Daniel’s and Jim Beam. Right now we also have Wild Turkey, Maker’s Mark and Four Roses just to name a few. Please click here to see all out selections.
Shipping these barrels is costly. I don’t want to turn anyone off from buying but it is needless to say that a 100 lbs large barrel don’t travel cheap. When we ship singles we have to use FedEx ground. You will get your barrel in 3-5 days but the cost will be about $165 just for the shipping. Unfortunately FedEx puts an $80 oversize fee on the shipment. When you buy 3 or more we send as freight. For us to get you the best price we will need to know where the destination is and if it’s commercial or residential. Also if you need lift gate service. Soon as we have all this info we can contact our brokers to get you an accurate quote.

The Hungarian Workshop has been is business for over 6 years and has wide variety of interior Leather Barrel Furniture and exterior barrel furniture. All designs are available in Wine barrel and from Bourbon Whiskey. If you are huge Tennessee Whiskey fan, they even have a side collection available made from JD branded barrels. Whether you are looking for high end barrel furniture or one of kind home decor, the Hungarian Workshop has both. Beautifully handcrafted and attention to detail is the reason why they are the #1 Southern California Barrel Furniture company.
The most popular item is the Adirondack style lounge chairs. Balazs Moldovan, the owner and craftsman, has made over 800 of these chairs in the past six years. Not to mention the hundred or so Adirondack Redwood chairs he built before venturing into the barrel wood trade. “Since I made so many already (Adirondack chairs) it was an easy transition with the design. Working with the new type of wood that is curved, bent and often twisted was another story.” Barrels are similar but not exactly the same. Trying to use jigs for large productions is useless. Even with all measurements and angles the same, there will always be very subtle cosmetic differences in all furniture pieces. That is the beauty of reclaimed material.
In Southern California Barrel Furniture are very popular. We have plenty of wineries and craft breweries. As well as a few small distilleries popping up now making whiskey and rum. When it comes to barrels, we have tons and tons. Stone Brewing Company is one of the largest craft beer maker here with a hefty amount of tasting rooms and restaurants. The Hungarian Workshop is a proud partner of Stone and has been handcrafting all their barrel furniture since the beginning. It was actually them who gave Balazs his first barrel.

“We are carrying over 100 reclaimed barrels and lots of them are Maker’s Mark Whiskey Barrels. With the inventory organized, you can now pick from a few brands. BUY HERE NOW!!!“
In past when your ordered a full size barrel from us you would have received the first barrel that we pulled from the stack. Barrels are stored on top of another so searching through for specific brands was not an option. When we had a large quantity of barrels with 20+ distillery brands at couple different locations, trying to keep a tab where which ones were was difficult.
At this time we have a smaller batch with few distillery brands. It may sound like a down grade but in reality it is a big plus. With less brands we can now keep a better organized warehouse and actually offer from the choices available. A big to for many customers are the Maker’s Mark Whiskey Barrels. It is a well know whisky brand that many people love.
The full size barrels are available in our Online Store under the Recycle Binsection. The Maker’s Mark Whiskey Barrels are 22″ in diameter and 34″ tall. The middle section is a little wider around 26″. When high in moisture content the barrels may weight somewhere in the 120lbs range. When dryer they will be around 80-90lbs. Most of our barrel will be the dryer ones. We store all our barrel indoors to keep them clean and in an over all better quality.
Be sure to browse through our furniture line as well. We are southern California’s #1 Wine and Bourbon Barrel Furniture company. Our products have been in several magazines and we are Stone Brewing Company’s barrel furniture partners. All of Stone’s locations have our chairs, tables and barstools. We have created well over 800 of the very popular lounge chairs and we are aiming to hit 1000 this year.

“We have southern California’s most beautiful handcrafted Wine Barrel Furniture. See most of our creations at all Stone Brewing Company location.”
Welcome to the Hungarian Workshop! We have been in business for over six years and we have been expending our furniture line every year. Just this year we added a new Tennessee Whiskey line for those true JD fans. Only a limited availability on these so don’t hesitate!
When it comes to Wine Barrel Furniture we have a beautiful selection along with an Interior Leather line where we upholster Wine and Bourbon barrel furniture with Italian Full Grain leather. Making them truly one of a kind and unique. We work with many designer, interior and exterior and offer designer discounts.
Our best sellers are the Wine and Bourbon barrel lounge chairs. They come in a few varieties. You can choose the backrest style, whether you want them to be rocking chairs and or if you’d prefer the interior leather version. Since the beginning we started making these lounge chairs (Adirondack style), the Hungarian Workshop has created over 800 along with hundreds of other pieces.
If you don’t happen to live near us here in southern California don’t worry we can ship all over the world. The last chair we sent overseas landed in Germany. It was barrel chair #521.
Our other Wine Barrel furniture include Pub Stools, Pub Tables, three different style end tables, ottomans and benches. All furniture pieces are finished with Brazilian Rosewood Oil making upkeep very easy. Once the wood feels a bit dry, all you have to do is re-wipe it with the oil and you are good to go. When you store the furniture indoors like the interior leather line, re-oiling will be almost unnecessary. I personally prefer to use bees was and mineral oil on interior items a couple times a year. Thats just because I like to keep the wood smooth as possible at all the times. These oils are something you can pick up at any home improvement store like Home Depot and Lowe’s.
An important factor to keep in mind when it comes to Wine Barrel furniture is that the red coloring is not permanent. I repeat, it’s not forever. The stain left behind from the wine is an organic color staining which will eventually fade. Especially in the sun light. The UV rays will suck the red out and turn it to a light or dark brown. Depends how dark the red was. Under the Wine Barrel Furniture section of our shop I have additional info in regards of these characteristics. Click here to learn more.
“We are working on a new concept to maxime usage for our left over leather from our current interioir line. Leather Wrapped Bourbon Barrel Chair coming soon!”
In the past few years we have been making lots of interior barrel furniture which feature leather upholstery. This leather is full grain Italian leather. They are thick, durable and rustic. (distressed) We offer them is six different colors for a small variety of our standard barrel furniture line. To see our Interior Leather Collection please click here.
With all the leather we order we try to be as efficient as possible. However, the leather hides come in all sorts of crazy shapes that make it hard to use every inch. With this new design concept we can cut out smaller stripes of leather and use much more of the hides.

“Our Recurved Staves make for a solid and hefty rocking motion no other companies implement in their product.”
Wine Barrel Rocking Chairs
We at the Hungarian Workshop aim to to provide one of kind and the highest quality barrel furniture and home decor available. We have been in business for over six years now and our craftsmanship will speak for it’s self. From my first barrel chair I made, I knew this was the style of woodworking and design I wanted to continue in. Not to mention that obvious and clear sign I received was when I found a random Hungarian Oak Wine Barrel which had my name (Balazs) laser engraved into it. Apparently there is a Hungarian Cooperage who’s company name is same as mine! This is a unique and entertaining story I will leave for another time.
Wine Barrel Rocking Chairs
After I made a few Wine Barrel Rocking Chairs I felt something was off. In a bad way. Even though I used some amazing Bear Boat Cabernet Sauvignon barrels which were short and round. They had the most curvature available but not what I would have liked. Most people don’t realize that wine barrels don’t have the proper curvature needed to make a rocking chair. Even the best ones have more of a kink in middle rather than a smooth bend. After this discovery, I know I had to do something which would make the Hungarian Workshop stand out from the rest. If you are a high end woodworker you probably can figure out the solution and method we use to create the Recurved Rocker Staves. If you are not, then it will have to stay as a trade secrete for now. Haha.
Once we got the bottom staves curved to where the chairs could roll back and forth the ideal amount, I knew we had a leg up on the competition. Soon after the newsletter went out, the products where flying off the shelve. Sort of speak. And even better, our Recurved Bourbon Whiskey Barrel Chairs are the only ones on the market. Whiskey barrels have almost no curvature so to be able to offer a proper whiskey barrel rocker we turned into the number one retailer for them. Cheers!
Over 750 Barrel Chairs Made!
Our Recurved Wine Barrel Rocking Chairs and recurved Bourbon Barrel Rocking Chairs are also available in an interior version where they feature handcrafted Full Grain Italian Leather Upholstery. We have six leather colors available.

“…some amazing Jack Daniel’s branded barrels which we turn into beautiful works of art.”
Hi there! I guess you are looking for our one of kind barrel clocks that now feature a Jack Daniel’s branded logo. I must mention that if you are serious about purchasing one please ACT NOW. We have a very limited supply and we can not be sure when we will receive more. Our barrel supplier receive their stock from many random distilleries and Jack Daniel’s in not a common one.
Our clocks are handcrafted from genuine American Oak barrels that were used to age delicious whiskeys. Most often they will be Kentucky Bourbon Barrels but sometimes we get lucky enough and find one of America’s most iconic brand Jack Daniel’s. These barrels will feature the company’s name branded into the barrel head (the top) and along the side.
The clocks we make may look simple but I can assure you they are crafted in a much more intricate way. We don’t simply cut off the ends of a barrel to create the body. Many people may not realize that as the barrel wood pieces dry, they will shrink, loosen up and the whole barrel may eventually fall apart. That is why when you see an old barrel the metal bands are usually loose or on the ground.
We actually use the left over cut off scraps from our popular furniture line to re-create the round barrel look. This method allows us to make a nice uniform shape. Not to mention, most barrels are actually somewhat oval from the years of aging and pressure they’ve gone through. By taking everything apart, we get access to cut the barrel head into a perfect circle as well.
The next and most important feature of our wall clocks are the hand cut roman numerals. That’s right, no painting or laser engraving here. The clock’s numbers are actually hand crafted from the barrels original steel bands. Quite a long and detailed process but completely worth it. The end result makes for a beautiful artisan piece while staying truly authentic.
The clock’s mechanism are easily interchangable if you would like another type of hands.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact us or you can email me directly at email@example.com

California Wine and Whiskey Barrel Furniture-
When time comes to order Whiskey Barrel Furniture or Wine Barrel Furniture there are a few important things to know or learn. We get daily emails and calls about the same questions so I decided to write this blog to help shine light on some of these subjects. Lets get right to it now with the most common ones.
Barrels – What & How
Wine and Whiskey barrels are made from quarter sawn White Oak. The white oak is highly durable and rot resistant. Ideal for this use. The wood is quester sawn which allows it to curve when steamed into shape. When you see a whole barrel upright, most people don’t realize there is no nails, screws or gluing involved make it. The only thing holding the barrel together is the metal bands. (hoops, rings) The pressure from the bands holds the wet wood together making it water and air tight. As soon as the wood starts to dry, it shrinks and gaps open up. The metal hoops slip off and the entire barrel falls apart. If you want to use them as decor be sure to water them down often to keep them solid. If you keep them indoor, the same will happen but at a much slower rate.
The inside of these barrels are charred black. The outside wood has darker patinas and the metal bands are mild steel which are dark. The distillery stamping and marking will vary. Most distilleries will only stamp one side of the barrel. And as far as specific whiskey brands go, it is very important to know that most large distilleries make many different whiskeys. For instance Buffalo Trace Distillery also makes Eagle Rare, Blanton’s, W.L. Weller, Van Winkle and etc. So if you are seeking these specific barrels, they won’t actually put these names on there. There will be the actually distillery stamp with dates and batch number and maybe the initials of the name of these smaller whiskeys. Another big request is the Jack Daniel’s barrels. They too don’t burn the logo into all their barrels. The ones you see branded on the side are rare and meant mainly for showrooms and other marketing campaigns.
“The Hungarian Workshop is partnered up with Stone Brewing Companyover 5 years ago. Enjoy some great beer while relaxing in some reclaimed California Wine and Whiskey Barrel Furniture”
The outside of the Wine Barrels are lighter in color and have the silver colored galvanized steel bands. The inside will be stained from the wine but as we all know wine comes in many different shades of red, purple and burgundy. Colors will vary for sure. And I need to mention that some of our barrels are also chardonnay barrels. No color at all. The wood will just be a bit darker. We usually keep these for smaller project. The third important fact about the color stain from the wine is that it won’t last. Because the wine is an organic stain, it will fade from the sun when kept outside.
Wine barrels also vary in size and shape. Cabernet Sauvignon will mostly come in short and round barrels. Others might be taller and skinner with less curvature. When you order multiple wine barrels pieces we always try to keep them uniform by using similar barrels.
