The Hungarian Workshop has made well over 1200 lounge chairs from reclaimed barrels alone. With plenty of tables, bar stools, interior leather furniture and more. We started our business in 2012 and have been busy as hell ever since. We jumped around between location to be able to show off our creations in person by having show rooms, but just like most business online proved to be the most efficient.

Whiskey barrel wood will be dark with the inside charred black. This is what gives whiskey its great taste and color. Don’t worry the charred wood is wired wheeled clean until just the patina of the black charring remains. Then we seal all seating parts with a clear coat to ensure nothing rubs off. The hardware we use throughout is stainless steel to prevent agains corrosion when kept outside. The whiskey barrel’s outside colors can vary drastically. Some are light and some maybe very dark. As the oak ages it picks up a wide variety of discoloration. This can create a mosaic mash up of lots of different colors.

Wine barrel wood will be light tan on the outside and inside will have some red tint left from the wine. This red color will eventually fade to a light brown because the natural stain from the wine fades after long exposure to air and sun. The metal bands are galvanized which makes them look somewhat silver and gray. like the whiskey barrel brands which are more dark and rusty. The curves on these wine barrels are also much more. Enough to see what not enough to change the design and feel when compared to whiskey barrels.

Wine & Whiskey Barrel Luxury Bar Stools are one of our biggest specialties. We offer a few variety of handcrafted bar stools made from reclaimed wine and whiskey barrels. Each design offers a different style that one might prefer. We have swiveling ones, ones with back rest, one that is a full captains chairs and one as a simple saddle one.

Wine & Whiskey Barrel Barstools

The swiveling ones are a big seller. They come in both wine and whiskey barrel option. Wine barrels are French oak which are much softer so not all of our designs are available from this material. Whiskey barrels are American oak that is very robust and hard. This material allows us to make certain styles which need a lot more structural durability. The swiveling barstools have an upgraded version which have a backrest. This is a version which is very much the same as the one without so it’s ideal for bars where people may want to sit comfortably for a longer period of time. And if you are seeking even more comfort this are also available in a upholstered version. The leather we use are very high end Italian full grain hides. This means you can see different grain patterns which matches the rustic wood’s style.

The bar chair is only available in whiskey barrel wood. This is a very intricate design which is why the hardy American oak is a must. If you have plenty of space and room at your bar then we highly recommend them.

The Whiskey Barrel Saddle Stools are the perfect design which allows us to use a barrel to its maximum capability. There are much more narrow staves in a whiskey barrel and this design lets us use up a whole bunch of them. This is also the reason why they don’t come in the wine barrel option. These stools are sleek and narrow perfect for cozy kitchens and areas where you want to store the stool under the counters when not in use. We have well over several thousand whiskey barrel rings up for grabs right now for a very low price. Just $75 will get you 12 rustic bands with free shipping. Each order will have 3 different size bands which are not cleaned. This means rust and some dirt maybe present. These are pre boxed and ready to ship within a week of ordering.

We typically pick up about 300-500 barrels a year and each barrel has six bands that hold the barrel together. After arrival we then wait about 3 months to have the wood dry out which causes the barrels to shrink a bit. At this point the barrel rings just slide off. This makes our job very easy when it comes time to break down the barrels. On a plus side, we no longer have to cut the bands off. Therefore, we only have full intact Rustic Whiskey barrel rings for sale again!

If you are ever looking for a large volume to order we can definitely cut you a break and offer you a deal. However, it has to be a very large order because shipping is the most expensive part about selling these. We say it’s free shipping but please understand that just means shipping is included. After all, Fedex, UPS, USPS and freight companies do not work for free. The weight of the barrel rings can add up very rapidly when you start buying in bulk. In short, you are mostly paying to get the rings to you. We are not looking to get rich of these. I just want to see them get up cycled into some thing else. Throwing them into the recycling bin seems like a big waste and missed opportunity and we don’t want to keep doing that.

Maintenance is a part of everyday life for most things and same goes for your furniture investments. Luckily, wine and whiskey barrels are made from French and American white oak which is very durable and robust. There is definitely a reason why wineries and distilleries use this material to store and age their products. White oak has a very high rot resistance and can last a life time. With a little bit of maintenance and conditioning your barrel furniture could become a family heirloom for decades to come.

First, it is important to know what kind of finish was applied to the wood. We use an outdoor sealer which penetrates the wood and protects from the indie out. This means, seasonal re-oiling is ideal to keep the oak looking new and hydrated. This form of protection is easier to work with because you can apply it when ever with ease. No sanding or stripping off old applications. Most people would agree that easier frequent maintenance is much better than a hard big refinish job.

However, if you use a really good varnish, maybe marine grade than your furniture can stay looking great for years. yes a thick coat of varnish can be great too. The down fall off varnish is sometimes they can start to chip or peel. Also, they can easily be scratched. This is a big reason why we use an oil finish. Even with a big damage, you can always just sand the wood smooth and re-oil and then it is as good as new.
