It is hard to claim that our items are the best out there, but it is a very catchy title that people and the search engines like. Ha. However, using the phrase “The Best Reclaimed Barrel Furniture” isn’t too hard for us. We have been working with reclaimed barrels for over 12 years. We have furnished lots of businesses, homes, been in magazines and even sent pieces over seas. The key in this business is stability. Everyone can get their hands on some barrels, make a few things then fizzle out within a few years. Not the Hungarian Workshop. We have been handcrafting for many many years and have been steadily busy ever since. Here in this blog I’ll walk you through few key features that make our products stand out from others.
The Best Reclaimed Barrel Furniture
First, and one of the most important feature is the barrel wood preparation. Even tho the oak is rustic and reclaimed you can not just grab and slap a piece of furniture together. The proper wire wheeling of the inside charred area of a whiskey barrel is very very important. All residue needs to be completely removed. This is a very dirty job but it’s got to be done, and done right. Next, the routering of the edges to a nice smooth 1/4″ curve so it is comfortable to the touch. You’d be surprised how sharp the edge of a barrel stave can be when left as is. After that we move onto the final sanding portion of the prep work. This is also a bit dirty and can take a while, but again when done right the final product comes out amazing.
By sanding just the right amount of the weathering and age off the wood, we are left with a beautiful looking patina and grain movement. The quester sawn white oak really pops when finished at the end. You will see these intricate tiger stripe like patterns and crazy contrasts which makes me never want to use another type of wood ever. In fact, I have not working with anything other than barrel oak since I started the company.

A few common ones are is the furniture comes assembled or not. The answer is yes. Almost all items come fully assembled. Only two barstools have seat not attached which just need to be put on with 4 carriage bolts. All smaller items ship with FedEx Ground and big things like the lounge chairs go as freight. Turn around time is about 2 week. A little more during holidays.
