Lots of clocks are being made from reclaimed barrel heads. The barrel heads are the round tops and bottoms which makes them an ideal choice for the project. However, since we see them far too often we decided to go with a more modern approach. Our New Artisan Clocks For The Whiskey Lovers is a must have. The Construction: Like I mentioned earlier, most Bourbon Whiskey Barrel Clocks are made from the round tops and bottoms called the barrel head. We decided to use the narrow skinny stave which we usually have a bunch of. These stave pieces are not that useful in our furniture designs and overall construction. Each barrel is made up of about 28-32 wooden staves and around 6-8 of those are skinny staves. These skinny or narrow staves usually sit on pallets until we figure out what to do with them. Sure we do use them in the seating of our chairs and stools as much as we can but still not enough to go through them in a timely manner. This dilemma is that led to this new New Artisan Clocks For The Whiskey Lovers design.

We first cut the narrow staves in half and lay them in a staggered horizontal pattern. We choose the pieces carefully to keep a nice uniform layout. Because the staves are wider in the center, after cutting them you are left with one side much wider and other much narrower. Because of this you have to stagger them in opposite directions. When you do this with attention to detail you can get a pretty even lay out and eye catching design. The back runners which hold the stave together are also barrel stave which we mill down to perfectly straight pieces. This way we aren’t using any additional unnecessary none barrel wood. 100% reclaimed oak barrel wood!
Because these don’t show any roman numerals, the focus is mainly on the piece its self and all characteristics it has. The wood grain, the patina, the distillery markings. Some people have a hard time telling time without the indication where the number should be but that’s not what these clocks are all about. They are an artisan design and a show piece for decoration. The good news is that if anyone has a clock that shows no numbers, you will actual just get used to it and learn to tell time no problem.
In the future we might make another version that does have roman numerals.
