With all the mass produced and imported items available at the click of your finger tips, sometimes it’s nice to have an item that is handcrafted. Something that isn’t made in a large factory over seas. Something that you know will last for generations to come. Since most furniture isn’t even made from solid wood anymore, you are basically buying things just to throw away in few years. Think about it, when was the last time you paid to have something re-finished, or even sold because it was still in really good shape. Now days we are living in a discarding world. Where it’s easier and unfortunately makes more sense just to buy again.
The good news is that there is still a few companies out there like us who are prating the art of craftsmanship and up-cycling. By using reclaimed lumber we are helping to minimize waste and the solid oak furniture will last for generations. An oak whiskey barrel has already been through the wringer and has survived the years of stress at distilleries. Even tho they are done with them, the barrels still have plenty more to give.
All whiskey barrels here in the US are made from solid American White Oak. They are quarter sawn which makes them even more robust. Not to mention, this quarter sawn method shows off the most beautiful grain patterns. Some pieces will have an incredible tiger stripe like patterns. And with the oil finish we apply, it really brings it out the oak patina and shows of the material’s true history.
A Unique and Pleasant Eco-Friendly Addition To Any Home
After all the wood cleaning, sanding and routering is done, we hand select every piece that fits best for the project. Because of the staves also often have different curvatures, we also have to try to match them up to keep uniformity. This makes the craft take a little bit longer but obviously very worth it. It usually the small attention to detail is what brings a furniture piece to perfection. The metal barrel bands are also heavily wire wheeled and buffed just enough to keep the rustic appearance. It will be clean and smooth to the touch while maintaining its charm.
All our furniture ship fully assembled. Except the barstools which just need the seats to be attached with the 4 carriage bolts. This is a very simple step and we don’t even place instructions in the boxes because it’s such a no brainer. Shipping is with FedEx Ground unless the items are big like our lounge chairs which go as freight. The turn around time is usually about 2 weeks plus a couple days for transit. However, most often we have things in stock and can go out within a week.
